Superfood Green Smoothie
Once Again Organic Lightly Toasted Creamy Almond Butter
Serves 1

Wow, does this one pack in a ton of nutrition in a glass.  The balance of carbohydrates from the banana, fat from the avocado and protein from the almond butter will keep you fueled up for hours.  This smoothie is also positively loaded with health power.  Kale is rich in vitamin K and antioxidants such as vitamins A and C.  Potassium –rich bananas help fuel the brain and keep muscles functioning optimally.  Avocados are a good source of fiber and heart-healthy unsaturated fats, including omega-3 fatty acids.  Flax seeds are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids and fiber, and almonds are rich in vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant known for protecting heart health.   Better still, the sweetness from the juice, banana and honey helps balance out the flavors so you just might be able to sneak those green veggies into your kids!

Ingredients:
1 packed cup baby kale (about 2 generous handfuls)
3/4 cup orange juice
1 small banana
1/2 of a ripe avocado
1 tbsp ground flax seeds
1 tbsp Once Again Organic Lightly Toasted Creamy Almond Butter
2 tsp Once Again Dawes Hill Killer Bee Pure Raw Organic Honey
3 ice cubes

  1. Place kale and orange juice in a blender and puree for 2 minutes.
  2. Add remaining ingredients and purée until smooth.
  3. Serve immediately in a chilled glass.

Note:  It is best to use baby kale in smoothies.  Standard blenders have a tough time breaking down kale completely, so unless you are one of the lucky ones with a Vitamix, stick with baby kale for a smooth smoothie.  Baby spinach can be substituted.

Chocolate “Sh-moothie”
Once Again Organic Sunflower Seed Butter
Serves 1

Need a long lasting source of fuel that will keep you full and satisfied all morning?  Look no further.  I named this a “sh-moothie” since this protein-packed smoothie is more like a chocolate shake’s healthy cousin.  My self-declared vegetarian son slurped this down in no time – a win for Mom as I watched 14 grams of protein disappear in a minute flat and a win for him since he got to have “dessert” for breakfast (ha!).

Ingredients:
3/4 cup silken tofu
3/4 cup frozen banana slices
2 tbsp unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 tbsp Once Again Organic Sunflower Seed Butter
1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tbsp agave
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and purée until smooth.
  2. Serve immediately in a chilled glass.

Note:  It is important to use frozen bananas in this recipe since there is no added ice.  Frozen bananas also result in the creamiest milkshake-like texture.

Cashew Mango “Lassi” Smoothie
Once Again Organic Cashew Butter
Serves 1

A lassi is a yogurt-based drink popular in India and Pakistan.  This version is dairy-free to keep it vegan so it gets its creaminess from creamed coconut instead.  For many years, coconut was thought to be an unhealthy food because of its high fat content.  Research in recent years has shown, however, that the fat in coconut is unique and provides many health benefits –studies have even shown that regular consumption of coconut oil can actually reduce cholesterol levels and help maintain a healthy weight.

Ingredients:
1 cup diced mango (about 1 small mango)
1 small banana
1/4 cup orange juice
1 tbsp Once Again Organic Cashew Butter
1 tbsp fresh lime juice
1 tsp lime zest
1 tsp agave
1 tsp creamed coconut
3 ice cubes

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and purée until smooth.
  2. Serve immediately in a chilled glass.

Almond-Ginger-Pear Smoothie
Once Again Organic Creamy Almond Butter
Serves 1

Pears are an excellent source of dietary fiber.  In fact, one medium pear contains close to 25% of the recommended daily intake of fiber for adult women.  Adequate fiber intake is essential for optimal health.  Fiber helps slow digestion and the absorption of sugars, which in turn helps regulate blood sugar levels.  Fiber also helps lower total cholesterol levels by lowering LDL, or “bad,” cholesterol.  Fiber can promote bowel health and may even reduce the risk of certain cancers.

Ingredients:
1 cup peeled / diced pear (about 1 medium pear)
1/4 cup non-fat plain Greek yogurt
1/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 tbsp Once Again Organic Creamy Almond Butter
1 tsp Once Again Dawes Hill Killer Bee Pure Raw Organic Honey
1 tsp freshly grated ginger
1 generous pinch ground cinnamon
3 ice cubes

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and purée until smooth.
  2. Serve immediately in a chilled glass.

Peanut Butter Power Smoothie
Once Again Organic Creamy Peanut Butter
Serves 1

At first glance, this smoothie may seem simple.  Don’t overlook it.  The secret ingredient is pulverized oats, which provide an extra blast of protein and fiber.  In fact, this smoothie comes in at a whopping 9 grams of fiber and nearly 16 grams of protein.  If you are looking for a healthy way to power through your morning then this is it.  No question, you’ll feel satisfied all the way until lunch.

Ingredients:
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/2 cup uncooked rolled oats, ground to a dust in a coffee grinder
1/2 cup frozen banana slices
2 tbsp Once Again Organic Creamy Peanut Butter
1 tbsp agave

  1. Place the milk and oats in a blender.  Blend for 1 – 2 minutes.
  2. Add remaining ingredients.  Purée until smooth.
  3. Serve immediately in a chilled glass.

Note:  This is a great smoothie for adding your favorite supplement, like flax or chia seeds.

Watermelon-Cilantro “Halwa” Smoothie
Once Again Organic Tahini
Serves 1

Halwa is a type of sweet dessert found in many varieties across the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.  It is most often made with a nut or seed butter base, usually tahini.

Ingredients:
1 cup chopped seedless watermelon
1/2 cup frozen banana slices
1/2 cup non-fat plain Greek yogurt
1 tbsp packed cilantro leaves
1 tbsp Once Again Organic Tahini
1 tsp Once Again Dawes Hill Killer Bee Pure Raw Organic Honey
1 tsp fresh lemon juice
1 generous pinch ground cardamom

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and purée until smooth.
  2. Serve immediately in a chilled glass.

Note:  It is important to use frozen bananas in this recipe since there is no added ice.  The watermelon provides lots of liquid so adding ice will result in a thin smoothie.  Keep a bag of frozen banana slices on hand for quick and creamy smoothies.
